  WOMEN STUDENTS

  IN THE

  UNIVERSITY OF NORTH
  CAROLINA

  1897-1922

Published by the University of North Carolina
  Women’s Association

Foreword

This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the admission of women
into the University and so it has seemed fitting that it should be the
occasion of a general alumnae reunion. It is with pleasure that we, the
members of the U. N. C. Woman’s Association, welcome you back to your
Alma Mater, you pioneers in the cause of coeducation in North Carolina.
We only wish it were possible for you all to be with us for this
commencement but since it is not, in order to introduce you to each
other, we have published this little pamphlet in which we have tried
to list every girl who has studied at the University since Mary MacRae
registered twenty-five years ago.

We wish to thank each one of you for the interest you have shown in
your answers to the questionnaires we sent out. For the sake of those
who could not read these we regret that we could not quote them all in
toto, but we found it necessary to confine ourselves to a few facts in
each case.

We hope you are going to enjoy this reunion--so much so, indeed, that
you will want to come back often. It is certain that there is a bright
future ahead of coeducation here at the University, and it is up to us
who have staked our claim on the frontier line to help push on into
the fairer land beyond. The interest and aid of our alumnae will mean
a great deal in carrying on the good work, always with this goal in
view--that the same pride our brothers feel in being Carolina men may
thrill our hearts at the thought of being Carolina women.
